World Cup: Maxwell's stunning double century, Australia snatch victory from Afghanistan

Thanks to Glenn Maxwell's brilliant innings, Australia defeated Afghanistan by 3 wickets.


In the 39th match of the ICC World Cup played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Australia achieved the target of 292 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the 47th over.


The Australian batting line-up struggled from the beginning of the innings against Afghanistan and lost 7 wickets for 91 runs.


Australia's opening batsmen David Warner and Travis Head were dismissed for 18 and zero runs respectively.

Mitchell Marsh scored 24 and Marnes Labushin scored 14 runs and returned to the pavilion. Josh Ingles was out for 0, Marcus Stoins 6 and Mitchell Starc 3.


After which Glenn Maxwell and captain Pat Cummins took command of the innings and established a record partnership of 202 runs for the eighth wicket.


Glenn Maxwell played an unbeaten innings of 201 runs off 128 balls with the help of 10 sixes and 21 fours, while captain Pat Cummins supported Maxwell in chasing the target by scoring 12 runs off 68 balls.


For Afghanistan, Naveen ul Haq, Azmatullah Umarzai and Rashid Khan took 2 wickets each.

Earlier, Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi won the toss and decided to bat first.
